Nike Finally Introduces the Pro Hijab
In March of this year Nike finally revealed their plans to release the first Nike Pro Hijab early next year. The piece of clothing is much anticipated by many Muslim female athletes around the world and was tested by figure skater Zahra Lari and weightlifter Amna Al Haddad
According to Nike, “The Nike Pro team (which is responsible for creating athletes’ base layers) examined how to make a performance hijab similar to Nike Pro’s other products: inconspicuous, almost like a second skin.” The garment is revolutionary because it gives female muslim athletes the ability to perform in complete comfort while practicing their respective sports.
We have recently seen Nike try to incorporate pieces of clothing for more diverse body types but this is the first garment created by Nike that is specifically tailored for Muslim female athletes. The hijab is lightweight and will be offered in XS/S and M/L sizes to adjust to different head sizes. The initial release will see the garment offered in three colors: black, vast grey and obsidian.
Nike made sure to design the hijab to be both versatile and practical. It is a pull-on hijab that is made from material that is completely opaque. The garment was also intentionally made to extend in the back so that it doesn't come untucked during activity.
