While Amanda braved the rainy weather for our mini photo shoot, I was able to ask her some questions about herself, her style, and what fashion means to her.

You are from California, that is far from the city. Do your roots influence aspects of your style?

I don't think it has a huge influence. California style is much more casual and laid-back clothing. The weather is consistently warm most of the year so I a lot of what people wear are tank tops and shorts like Hollister brand or beach wear style clothing for every day. However, I do really like flow-y and floral fabrics so I guess that's where my California roots come through.

Do you have any fashion icons or inspirations?

My biggest style inspiration honestly comes from people watching. My favorite thing to do is when I am taking the subway or hanging out in the parks in the city to just observe what people are wearing or how they have made certain pieces of clothing their own. I love incorporating looks I've seen out into my own style. I think part of the reason living in New York is so great is not only is it one of the fashion centers of the world, but that there is such a diverse range of fashion styles from the stores to the streets.

What does your personal style say about you?

I'd like to describe my personal style as adventurous but sophisticated and composed. If I don't like what I'm wearing I don't feel as confident or like I can be as productive if I don't feel like I look put together. I like layering or adding accessories to make what I am wearing stand out. I also love to try different looks from flowery dresses to edgier band t-shirts and beanies to classic black outfits. I don't feel like I should have to be limiting myself to one particular style or aesthetic because I like to play around with different looks and explore different explore creative or new ways to dress.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion is a big interest of mine. I am minoring in Fashion studies and it is the industry I want to go into. I have always loved styling outfits and giving friend's advice on what to wear. Seeing how different patterns and pieces that you would not necessarily think fit actually come together cohesively together to create a unique look. I think fashion is so amazing because it is literally the way we express ourselves through clothing and there are so many different ways you can communicate who you are through how you choose to dress.
