5 Days in NYC with The Lick

Madison Howie and Nicole Goldstein are the co-founders of The Lick NYC (@thelicknyc). Their Instagram feed is filled with foodie recommendations that will take you all around New York City. As their Instagram recently launched, we invited Madison and Nicole to share their food picks for five days in the city

Day 1) Nicole’s Pick: Upper West Side

The Lick is taking you now to just a few blocks away from our very own Fordham Lincoln Center campus, The Jones is the place to start your afternoon off. A perfect place to study and eat, with outlets in every booth and free wifi, or a place to grab lunch with friends. The warm, cool but casual environment is not all they have to offer. The food is to die with items ranging from a Buttermilk Chicken and Waffles sandwich (with candied bacon, yum!) to sweet potato edamame burger for our vegan friends. It is a spot that is relaxed, but also chic, making it a must-go spot on our list. If you're craving something sweet after your savory meal, right next store you can stop by Holey Cream to grab a donut ice cream sandwich. Yep, I said it correctly, a donut ice cream sandwich! It’s a beautiful thing. When you are done, you can check out the shops at Columbus Circle for some quick shopping, succesfully finishing the day!

Day 2) Nicole’s Pick : Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Here is Nicole’s favorite restaurant in New York City. Take the L train down to Northern Territory is an australian inspired restaurant that is one of the coolest places you can go. Sitting in the middle of Greenpoint, Brooklyn you can find a chill, laid back rooftop, and bar. They also have an indoor area, which is fantastic, but the rooftop is the sight to see! It is fall weather right now, but the rooftop it is still open for business! The is the best place to brunch it up with some friends because it is more like a hangout spot than a restaurant. You can hangout for hours, while eating some brunch, drinking some yummy drinks and enjoying the beautiful view of Brooklyn, and the skyline of Manhattan. Also, This place is totally Instagram worthy, approval by The Lick. There brunch menu is simple, with your standard avocado toast to french toast at reasonable prices making it attainable for the college folk. Right after your long meal you can venture a couple blocks to Williamsburg for a some window shopping or after brunch coffee! Thanks Brooklyn, for a day well spent!

Day 3) Madison’s Pick: Upper East Side

Full disclosure: this requires some walking.

Got a new pair of sneakers and a Saturday with no plans? Perfect. Start at the Neue Galerie on the corner of 86th and Fifth, where you’ll find some of the best German and Austrian art in the city. Then down to the one and only Metropolitan Museum of Art on 82nd and Fifth, which is the largest art museum in the country. If you haven’t already been here, this trip IS A MUST. Continue down to the Frick Collection on 70th and Fifth – it was Henry Clay Frick’s private home and now showcases his extensive and stunning art collection. All that walking will make you hungry, so head down to the Plaza Food Halls in the basement of the Plaza (at the lower east corner of the Park) for a delicious meatball sandwich or maybe even some sushi. Dessert, you ask? Magnolia Bakery on the corner of 60th and 3rd. Enjoy!

Day 4) Madison’s Pick: Union Square

What’s better than a day in the park? Union Square is SUCH a great area and if you’re feeling especially wanderlustful, you have Madison Square Park above you and Washington Square Park below. Shopping on Fifth Ave is just a few blocks away – Zara, H&M, Anthropologie – and there’s plenty of great food options as well. For something casual and quick, try Grey Dog on University between 11th and 12th. Or, if you’re feeling funky, head next door to Tortaria - AMAZING Mexican-style burgers, and of course, guacamole. For dessert, walk to the end of the block where you’ll find one of the most delicious gelato spots in the city, Amorino. Best day ever in Union Square.

Day 5) Madison’s and Nicole’s Pick: Chelsea

Ah, Chelsea… how we love you. Nicole and Madison both adore this area. If you haven’t already checked out the High Line, what HAVE you been doing? Grab some ice cream at Ample Hills Creamery on the corner of Gansevoort and Washington Avenue – SO DELICIOUS – and check out the views! Too cold? Head over to the Whitney on Gansevoort and 10th Avenue. Speaking of Gansevoort… check out Gansevoort Market on the corner of Hudson and 14th – a slamming little marketplace with great food options and cool vibes. Speaking of markets… Chelsea Market! With all its shops and dining, you cannot go wrong. But if you want to splurge on food a little, head up to the Red Cat – a fabulous New American restaurant – on 23rd and 10th Avenue. Happy dining!
